Meet Emily (Entry 1)
First post at the beginning of the school year
Emily is 16 and has lived in Barre, MA her whole life. She lives with her mother and a housemate who rents a room in their house. Her father passed away five years ago.
Emily consistently received high grades until late elementary school when teachers started assigning more homework. In middle school, her schoolwork began to feel less relevant to her and the impact of personal issues mounted. Emily’s grades continued to drop and she fell further and further behind, all of this compounded by a car accident last year. She is now enrolled in a credit recovery program at Quabbin Regional High School designed to fast track her to a grade level consistent with her age.
As of this posting, according to her school, Emily is a sophomore (28 credits shy of being a junior). She has passed the science (biology) MCAS, but still needs to take and pass the math and English MCAS to be eligible to graduate. Emily’s goal is to attain a high school diploma as soon as possible.
